At Hour Hands, we love a British garden party. Whether you’re planning a formal event or an intimate gathering, a summer party is a great excuse to enjoy delicious food, showcase your garden at its best and relax with your nearest and dearest. Here’s our top 5 tips for planning a perfect event.
Summer is a busy time, socially, so make it a priority to send out a ‘Save the Date’ message or invitation. This will give you plenty of time to keep track of RSVPs and makes planning your food and drinks much easier.
Think about the space you have and how many people you expect to attend. Then consider how you’d like the garden party to look and feel. Search Pinterest and Instagram for ideas and inspiration.
Once you’ve decided on the theme/vibe for your garden party, you can plan your food, drinks, seating arrangements, games and entertainment accordingly. Plan and book your gardener, caterer, window cleaner, florist, music, entertainment and photographer at least four weeks ahead where possible. That way, you’ll have minimum fuss in the lead up to the party.

5. Make it special
Take some time to think about the extra touches that will make your guests even more comfortable:
- Have a wet weather plan – because it is the UK, after all! Buy or hire tents and gazebos; there’s plenty to suit all budgets and sizes of garden.
- Make sure your fabulous food is the only thing on the menu; keep bugs at bay with citronella candles dotted around.
- It’s a classic, but twinkling fairy lights make any party look magical after sunset.
- Think about using outdoor heaters or fire pits to keep your guests toasty, and leave spare blankets on the backs of chairs in case the weather turns chilly.
