Set up your Christmas planner
Preparation is the key to staying organised, and now is the time to start. Using a Christmas planner helps you save time and cut stress, allowing you to relax and enjoy the holiday with your loved ones.
There are plenty of planners available to buy or download online; here’s some of our favourites in the Hour Hands office:
Planners to buy

Or you can simply create your own spreadsheet, for a completely bespoke solution. When choosing or creating your planner, consider these categories:
To track all those school concerts, family visits and Christmas parties. This helps you to avoid double booking, plus you can instantly see when you’ll be free to see friends and family or complete your Christmas shopping.
Also consider sending out ‘Save the Date’ notes if you’re planning a party – Paperless Post has a great range.
It’s very easy to overspend at Christmas; avoid any unwanted surprises by making a list of everything you need to buy over the next few months to complete your perfect Christmas.
Don’t forget to include DIY & home maintenance, food and drink, presents, parties, and any outfits for special events.
Present and card list
Consider who you need to buy presents for – don’t forget school and work as well as family and friends – and how much you want to spend. You can add ideas as you see them, and allow yourself plenty of time to shop around for the best deals.
Food and entertaining list
- Dates to book your online grocery shop and order your turkey
- Recipes for store cupboard meals
- Drinks cabinet list so you can start to take advantage of offers
- Menu planning pages covering Christmas Eve through to Boxing Day and the New Year
House and home
Consider each area of your home and list any DIY or maintenance work that needs completing before Christmas.
- Do you need to order extra logs?
- Has your boiler been serviced?
- Do you need to plan accommodation for extra guests?
Don’t worry, you don’t have to complete all these tasks this week! But if you have your plan at the ready then you can add and tick off jobs each week, as well as buying your gifts when you spot them rather than requiring a last-minute dash.
And if you find yourself short of time then please don’t worry – Hour Hands can take the stress of Christmas preparations off your hands. From buying and wrapping gifts to writing cards, decorating trees and even waiting in for your supermarket shop, we can take care of it.
