Access to work: Business support for anyone in work with additional needs

Do you have a physical or mental health condition or disability?  Are there administration tasks that need doing in your business or at work? Then the Access to Work Scheme may help!

Access to Work is a government scheme. It provides a grant that can be used to pay for practical support with your work – whether you work from home or from an office. Often this means administrative help to complete those tasks are more challenging – which over time can negatively affect business. By bringing in admin support or a virtual PA to help, then the individual can concentrate on what they do best, knowing that those admin tasks are being done.

Administration Support

The grant for free administrative help each week is not dependent on you receiving any other benefits. It can be used to provide support for a wide variety of tasks including:

  • Invoicing
  • Diary management
  • Renewing insurance
  • Booking travel
  • Liaising with suppliers

In short, all those tasks that take up space on your to-do list!

Practical support with your work

Access to Work could give you a grant to help pay for things like:

  • BSL interpreters, lip speakers or note takers
  • a support worker or job coach to help you in your workplace

Your workplace can include your home if you work from there some or all of the time.

It does not matter how much you earn. If you get an Access to Work grant, it will not affect any other benefits you get and you will not have to pay it back.

Mental health support

You can get support to manage your mental health at work, which might include:

  • a tailored plan to help you get or stay in work
  • one-to-one sessions with a mental health professional
  • Support with administrative tasks that you may find challenging or which negatively impact on your mental health.
