Congratulations to Kirsty on your first year with Hour Hands!

Super-organised Kirsty is an active member of Hour Hands supporting a number of our clients as both a PA and a bookkeeper. This ensures that the work is varied and it enables Kirsty to tick a number of tasks off the to-do list every day (one of her favourite things to do!)

As Kirsty has been with us for a whole year now, we thought it was time to share a little bit about what she has been doing and to thank her for her dedication and passion.

A PA and bookkeeper extraordinaire!

I have worked with a number of clients over the past year with many highlights. I love the work as no day is ever the same as another and it has enabled me to hone a variety of skills. I am always learning new things.

My clients are all very different which keeps it interesting, they all have entirely different requirements.  For example, I use Sage to manage the accounts of one of my key clients, a wine merchant, including invoicing, paying bills and reconciliation, whereas I use Xero to support several other important clients with invoicing and payment reconciliation. I have become an expert in credit control and chase payments via Xero and by phone and on email. I spend a lot of time liaising with HMRC ensuring that filing and payments are all correctly made.

In terms of PA work, I manage inboxes which includes answering emails, making phone calls and booking contractors – one day I could be booking a cleaner and the next chasing up insurance claims. For a motorsport client, I spend time informing the DVLA of change of ownership of vehicles, uploading warranties, and paying fines.

It’s worth investing time in networking

I really enjoy networking and am proud to represent Hour Hands at various events. It enables me to tap into my sales and marketing experience and allows me to be face-to-face with clients and potential clients.

I also enjoy the reward and recognition element of a job. A colleague and I have introduced ‘Team Player of the Month’ to Hour Hands when we reward an individual for demonstrating the company values. The winner gets a voucher of their choice, their photograph on the ‘wall of fame’ and a Hand in Hand trophy which sits on their desk for the month. It’s great for motivation and says thank you for making a difference and portraying the Hour Hand values.

It’s the Hour Hands spirit that makes work so much fun

The Hour Hands quarterly team meetings are held on a Wednesday. They are fun, engaging and there’s always a surprise of what activity we may be doing. Each session starts with a company round up, news, events, and so on, then the fun begins. The last one was a boxing/ boxercise class and a picnic so I am excited for the big reveal of the next one on 11th September. We’ll keep you posted on our social channels!
