Fulfilling a temporary bookkeeper role was the initial request from this busy, growing IT business. The Client

Data protection services company Harbor Solutions, https://harborsolutions.com/, ensures that data, the lifeblood of many businesses, is continuously available regardless of location, volume, or data type.  It protects this data from cyberattacks and outages, and delivers recovery services to any business in the event of a successful hack. Founded in 2014, this Hertfordshire-based company holds multiple contracts with clients and partners.

The Challenge

Historically, the Financial Director (FD) handled all of the company’s financial and accountancy tasks – from forecasting to expenses – but with very little time available alongside supporting the growing business, this was an unsustainable situation. As the company was unclear about what level of accountancy support they needed – and not wanting to commit to a new employee post-pandemic lockdowns – they were in a challenging position. They needed a way to determine the best skillset for their needs.

The Solution

After meeting Hour Hands at a networking event, Harbor determined that employing a temporary senior bookkeeper from Hour Hands would provide both the skills and the time that they needed to source a longer term solution. Wendy joined the business in 2021. As a competent, virtual bookkeeper she would complete all of their day-to-day accounting tasks, giving back time and space to the FD and other directors to concentrate on the future of the business.

The Result

Hour Hands delivered high level and day-to-day bookkeeping support for nearly three years, working remotely and using zoom and in-person meetings when required. Tasks include sales and purchase ledger inputs and problem-solving, invoicing and payment reconciliations, expenses, and journal updates using the in-house systems and Quickbooks. Wendy worked closely with all business functions, including sales and operations, and liaised regularly with the company’s management accountant to prepare monthly management accounts.
