Staff Recognition in 2020: Top 6 Tips
Staff recognition has never been more important than in 2020. It’s been a year of highs and lows: furlough, social distancing, and virtual meetings have been tricky enough! And now we’re finishing the year without a party or event to say thank you for all of your team’s hard work, loyalty and patience.
According to a recent survey by Perkbox, 70% of respondents handed out Christmas gifts to staff and a whopping third of these, took their team out for a Christmas meal. With a physical party out of the question this year, and many of us being ‘zoomed’ out, you may need some other ideas.
Many businesses have been adversely impacted by Covid-19 restrictions, however, it’s still important to acknowledge the contribution of your team members and clients: even a token will be appreciated.
Here are a few of our favourite ways to say thank you. Remember, we are on hand to purchase, wrap, and deliver your gifts so if you like any of these staff recognition ideas, just give us a call and leave the rest to us.
Innovative ways to say thank you this year
Spread a little Christmas cheer with a few well chosen words or gifts. They don’t have to cost the earth and with a little thought, special packaging and personalised message, will bring a festive smile to everyone.
1. A Christmas hamper
Hampers come in all shapes and sizes but are always warmly welcomed. Anything can go inside a hamper, from food and drink – gluten free and vegan options are available – to stationery, games, toiletries, or even festive flowers or decorations.
The world is your oyster and we’re happy to help you choose the perfect contents and packaging, as well as organise delivery.
2. Festive Vouchers
Vouchers are not always the first choice, however, they allow the recipient to purchase something that they want or need. Easily slipped inside a decorative envelope, they are a small acknowledgement of work well done.
If appropriate, choose vouchers from local or online independent retailers; or to give greater choice pick a national retailer. An alternative is to choose a restaurant voucher so that staff can celebrate your generosity with their family.
There’s a subscription for pretty much every hobby and interest you can name. From magazines to alcohol, plants to coffee, films to fitness. It’s the gift that can keep on giving all year round: an ongoing reminder of your appreciation. Wrap the gift card in sustainable wrapping and deliver it simply and quickly via the post. This is an often overlooked gift option that when carefully chosen, packs a huge punch for the whole year ahead.
4. An extra day’s holiday
Want to say thank you without spending money in the short term? Give staff an extra day’s leave in 2021. You may need to take HR advice on this one as there is guidance about how to make this offer without it becoming an accepted benefit. However, it could be a lovely option as a one-off reward. You may wish to specify the day based on your business needs, or keep it open ended within a set time period.
5. A personal message
Staff recognition doesn’t have to be expensive. When money is tight, you can’t beat a personal message to boost morale. The key word here is ‘personal’ – ensure that the message is 100% relevant to the recipient and where possible, sign it yourself. If it’s appropriate, add in a note of reassurance so that your staff can relax and enjoy Christmas without worrying about what will happen in 2021. It’s an uncertain time – your kind words could be the tonic that’s needed.
6. Something entirely different…
You may wish to purchase a bespoke item that’s just perfect for your staff or your clients. You may know exactly what this is or you may only have a vague idea. This is where the band of Hour Hand elves comes into its own. Tell us your budget and the recipient’s interests and leave the rest to us.
